My name is Gary Steele and I've had a guitar in my hand for as long as I can remember.
I started with a 1996 Red 🎸 Squire Stratocaster (a Christmas gift from Santa🎅 at age 11) and since then I cant stop thinking about all things music.
I earned a music degree from UNC Wilmington studying jazz guitar. I briefly played bass in a US touring rock band (tour life was not for me), played an ungodly amount of local gigs, I've been an MD for church groups and I own a music school (Steele Music Studios) in Wilmington, NC. We have been in business since 2014.
My music degree required that I take traditional piano proficiency courses as well as jazz theory. At 25, I started teaching myself the drumset.
And guess what the #1 thing I've learned throughout this entire journey is...? 👉 Learning to play multiple instruments grew my understanding of how music works as a whole. Not just from the perspective of any one singular instrument. Once you understand the fundamental laws of musicianship, the sky is the limit as far as what you can achieve.
